Masonry contractor in Ontario, CA - careful repairs and new walls that suit your house
Fieldstone Ontario Concrete and Masonry is a masonry contractor based in Ontario, CA. We repair brick, block, stone and chimneys, repoint old mortar, and build new walls, walkways and paver driveways for homes across the city.

Our masonry work across Ontario
Ontario is where we're based and where I learned this work. Before I started Fieldstone in 2023, I spent years patching steps, chimneys and block fences at rentals all over the city for a property management company. Most calls here still sound like that work: a leaning fence between yards, a chimney dropping mortar, or a front step pulling away from the house. They come mostly from homeowners, plus a few landlords who knew me back then. We do the same work next door in Upland, Montclair and Chino.
The city has older houses with brick chimneys and a lifetime of repairs on them, and newer tracts where the call is more often a new wall, walkway or paver driveway. On the older houses, most of the job is sorting good work from failed work, so the price and the timing usually come down to how much is really broken and whether the city needs to sign off.
What we do for Ontario homes
On Ontario's older houses, a foundation crack can be decades old and stable or still moving, so I check which before we patch anything.
Loose bricks and crumbling mortar at the top of a chimney are common on older Ontario homes, and we rebuild only the rows that have let go.
If the mortar on older brick around Ontario turns to sand under your thumb, we tuckpoint it by grinding out the worn joints and refilling them to match.
A few cracked or flaking bricks on a planter, step or house wall don't mean starting over, since we can cut out just those and set matching ones.
Pavers on a well-packed base replace a cracked Ontario driveway with a surface you can repair a few stones at a time instead of all at once.
Where a yard here steps down or soil pushes against a fence, we build retaining walls with drainage behind them, because trapped water is what usually tips them.
Older brick and stone around Ontario often carries decades of mismatched patches, and we sort out which ones failed and bring the wall back to one look.
Ontario homeowners ask for fireplaces indoors and out back, and we build the firebox and surround in brick or stone sized to the room.
A thin layer of real or cast stone over stucco or block can dress up an Ontario porch or column without the weight of a full stone wall.
Block fences between Ontario yards lean, crack or lose their caps over time, and we'll tell you whether a section can be reset or needs rebuilding.
When an Ontario house adds a garage or a room, we lay the block foundation walls with steel and grout in the cores so each wall acts as one piece.
A lot of Ontario families cook and gather in the backyard, so we build grill islands, counters and bar seating in block, brick or stone.
The path from the driveway to the front door takes the most foot traffic on an Ontario lot, so we set it on a packed base meant to stay even.
New brick garden walls, planters and entry pillars should look like they belong with the house, so we pick the brick and mortar color to suit it.
Stone walls, steps and pillars take patience because each piece has to be fitted, and that slower, careful work is why I started this business in Ontario.
If only a few mortar joints are open, say by an outdoor faucet or under a window, we refill just those spots instead of redoing the whole wall.
What Ontario homes need from a mason
You'll get a straight answer about what needs work now and what can wait, because selling you work you don't need doesn't help anybody.
Licensed and insured
We're licensed and insured, and the finished work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.
Sound brick stays put
Tearing out good brick or mortar just costs you money, so we replace only what's failing.
Repairs that match

A tidy site around your family
Years of working around tenants taught me to keep paths clear and clean up as we go, because people live here.

I walk your job before we write it up, and I stay on site with our crew while the work gets done.
Ontario masonry questions we hear
Do I need a licensed contractor for masonry work in Ontario, CA?
Usually, yes. California requires a license from the Contractors State License Board for any job that needs a building permit, uses hired workers, or runs $1,000 or more in labor and materials combined. A job is exempt only if it needs no permit, uses no employees and stays under $1,000 in total, and the state doesn't allow a bigger job to be split into smaller contracts to get under that line. We're licensed and insured, so that's settled before I show up.
How do I find out if my masonry project needs a permit in Ontario?
Ask the city's Building Department. It issues permits for building projects in Ontario, reviews the plans and inspects the work so it's built right. You can call them at (909) 395-2023, but the counter closes Tuesdays from 7:30 to 9:00 am and the first Thursday of each month from 8:00 to 10:00 am. When your job needs city sign-off, we take care of the permit and set up the inspections. For historic homes or walls near a property line, we check with the city early so nothing catches you off guard.
What affects the cost of masonry work in Ontario, CA?
The price mostly comes down to how much is really failing, how easy it is to reach, and whether new brick, stone or mortar has to match the old. If your job needs a permit, it pays to keep it moving. The first extension on a plan check or permit is free, but the city charges $150 for each extra residential extension after that. When I walk the job, I write up what I'd do and why, so you can see what's driving your number.
How much can a contractor ask for up front on a home project in California?
Under the state's contractor rules, the down payment can be no more than $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. After that, the contract should list each payment and tie it to work completed or materials delivered. Those rules cover all home improvement projects, masonry included.
Does a contractor need a business license to work in Ontario, CA?
Yes. The city requires a business license before a business starts working in Ontario, and contractors based outside the city use the same application as local ones. Contractors may also need to give the city their state license number and workers' comp details, and out-of-city contractors list the job location and the job value.
How do I know if my block fence in Ontario needs repair or replacing?
Most block fences need repair, not replacing, unless a long section is leaning hard or cracked through in several places. Loose caps, sandy mortar and a few broken blocks can usually be fixed in place, and tearing out sound block just costs you money. I'll walk the fence with you, point out what's failing and tell you if any of it can wait.
