Outdoor kitchen masonry in Ontario, CA - a grill island built to fit your appliances

Tired of a rolling grill parked on the patio? We build block and stone outdoor kitchens that fit your appliances and suit your house.

What goes into a masonry outdoor kitchen in Ontario?

With outdoor kitchen masonry in Ontario, CA, we prepare the slab, build the island from concrete block, face it in stone and get the top ready for your counters, so your grill and appliances end up set in a solid structure made to fit them.

Maybe you've got a grill on wheels on the patio and you're ready for something built in, or you've got a wish list of appliances and no idea what comes first. The price mostly moves with the size and shape of the island, how many openings it needs and the stone veneer you pick, and the schedule mostly moves with other people, like when you settle on appliances, when the utility trades can come and how fast the countertop shop works. Your estimate spells out what we'd build and why, so you're not guessing at either one.

Why Ontario homeowners call Fieldstone for outdoor kitchens

I started this business in 2023 so I could do masonry carefully instead of fast, and on an outdoor kitchen that means a plan that fits your yard and a crew that respects it.

  • I come out myself

I look at every job in person, and I'm on site with our crew while your kitchen goes up.

  • Licensed and insured

We're licensed and insured, and you're welcome to ask about both before you sign anything with us.

  • A tidy yard while we work

Years of working around tenants taught me to keep the site clean and treat your home like people live there.

  • Sound concrete stays put

If your patio slab or block fence is in good shape, I'll tell you to keep it, because tearing out good work just costs you money.

  • Backed by our guarantee

Every outdoor kitchen we build, from the slab to the last stone, is backed by our satisfaction guarantee.

How we build your outdoor kitchen

The island gets built around your grill and appliances, so we ask you to pick them before we lay out any block. That way the openings fit the first time.

  • A straight grill island

This suits a smaller yard or anyone who mostly grills, since one run of block with a grill and some counter space has the fewest openings to plan. It's also the simplest build, with the fewest trades to schedule.

  • An L-shaped kitchen

If you cook outside a lot, an L gives you room for a side burner, a fridge or a sink, and more counter to work on. I line up the utility trades so their lines go in after our block is up and before the stone goes on, which keeps anyone from waiting on anyone else.

  • The stone and the space around it

Manufactured stone can go straight onto block when the surface is clean, so we keep the block free of dirt, paint or anything else that would weaken the mortar bond, and we help you pick a stone that suits your house. A lot of people also add a walkway from the back door or a low brick wall to frame the space, and it's easier to plan those with the island than after it.

What happens when you call about an outdoor kitchen in Ontario?

An outdoor kitchen brings more people into your yard than most masonry jobs, so we plan it around your calendar and set the schedule with you before anything starts.

  1. Call or send the form

Call (909) 738-1042 or send the form with a note about your yard and what you'd like, and we get back to you to set up a visit.

  2. I come out

I come see the yard myself, take photos and show you what I'm seeing, from where the island fits best to what's already there that can stay.

  3. Your written estimate

I write up what we'd build, what can stay as it is and why, so you can hold it up against any other bid line by line.

  4. Build and walk-through

Once you say go, we set a schedule together, our crew builds with me on site, and we walk the finished kitchen with you.

Outdoor kitchen questions we hear

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in Ontario, CA?

The price of an outdoor kitchen comes down to the size and shape of the island, how many appliance openings it needs, the stone you choose and whether we pour a new slab or build on the one you have. A straight grill island costs less than an L with a fridge and side burner, because every opening and every extra trade adds work. I'll price your actual layout once I've seen the yard.

How long does it take to build an outdoor kitchen?

One pricing guide puts the masonry on a standard L-shaped outdoor kitchen at 7 to 12 working days, but the whole project runs longer than that. The same guide says to plan around the other trades' schedules and a 2 to 3 week lead time for the countertops to be made.

Does a masonry grill island need vents?

It can, even when it's all block and stone, so check the install guide for the grill you choose before we lay out the island. One grill maker's guide calls for at least two vents in the island whether it's built from combustible or non-combustible material, and for propane it places them low because propane is heavier than air. We plan the vents into the block from the start so we're not cutting stone later.

Do I need an insulated jacket for a built-in grill?

If your grill maker requires one, yes, and one maker's guide says its matching insulated jacket must be used when anything that can burn sits within 24 inches of the grill frame. In a block and stone island that usually comes down to wood nearby, like a pergola post or cabinet doors, so mention it when I come out.

Can an unlicensed builder do my outdoor kitchen in California?

Only on a very small job, because California's minor work exemption covers work up to $1,000, and only when the work needs no permit and the person doing it employs no one on the project. An outdoor kitchen built by a crew falls outside that, so ask anyone you're considering about their license before you sign.

How do I keep the stone on my outdoor kitchen looking good?

Keep harsh chemicals off it, because acid cleaners and pool chemicals can discolor or damage manufactured stone veneer. Aim your sprinklers so they aren't wetting the stone over and over, too.

What to know about outdoor kitchen masonry in Ontario

Here in Ontario, the city's Building Department handles plan review and inspection for projects, so if you want to know what the city will look at on your kitchen, you can reach them at City Hall, 303 East B Street, or at (909) 395-2023. Because an outdoor kitchen pulls in other trades, it also helps to know that California lets you ask for the list of subcontractors on a home improvement contract, with each one's name, contact information, license number and classification, so ask for it when you sign.

Most of the backyards we build in around here are tract-home yards where the island has to share room with a lawn, a pool or a block fence, so I sketch where people will stand and walk before we settle on a size. We do the same work across the cities around Ontario, including Upland and Rancho Cucamonga, plus plenty of others nearby.
