Walkway construction in Ontario CA - a path that's wide enough and sheds water

Muddy shortcut across the lawn or a cracked old path? We build a walkway sized for how you use it and pitched to drain.

A curved gray stone-paver walkway crosses a backyard patio beside a black fence, garden beds, and a blue house.

What goes into building a new walkway in Ontario?

Walkway construction in Ontario, CA means building a set path across your yard from pavers, stepping stones, gravel, mulch or poured and finished concrete, so you get a route that holds up and suits your yard and your budget.

Most folks call us when there's a worn dirt line across the lawn where everyone actually walks, or when an old path has cracked, sunk or turned into a puddle every time the sprinklers run. The price mostly comes down to the material, how long and wide the path is, and how much digging and grading the route needs, while the schedule turns on the material you pick and whether the path reaches the street side of your lot, where the city may need to sign off. When I come out, I measure the route and write up what I'd build and why, so you've got your own number to work from.

Why Ontario homeowners call Fieldstone for walkways

You get the owner on your property, a path planned around how your household actually walks, and someone who'd rather tell you an old section can stay than sell you a new one.

  • I come out to every job

I walk your yard myself before we quote, and I'm on site with our crew the whole time we build.

  • Licensed and insured on every path

We're licensed and insured, and you're welcome to ask about either one when I walk your route.

  • Building carefully since 2023

I started this business in 2023 to do masonry carefully instead of fast, and that still sets our pace.

  • A tidy yard while we work

Years of working around tenants taught me to keep dirt, forms and tools out of your way, because people live there.

  • Backed by our satisfaction guarantee

Every walkway we build is backed by our satisfaction guarantee, so call (909) 738-1042 when you're ready to start yours.

The walkways we build in Ontario

We start with who'll use the path and how, so it's wide enough and pitched to shed water, then we match the material to your yard, your budget and the house.

  • Poured concrete paths

Concrete suits a front walk or a daily route to the side gate because it's smooth underfoot, easy to sweep and simple to push a stroller or wheelbarrow across. If you want it to look less plain, we can broom or edge the finish so it doesn't read like a city sidewalk.

  • Pavers, brick and natural stone

Pavers and stepping stones suit a walk you want to match the house, and if you'd like real stone or a garden wall alongside it, we tie it in with our stone masonry or brick wall installation work. They cost more than gravel up front, but for an entry people see every day, it's the one I'd pick.

  • Gravel or mulch with edging

Gravel and mulch suit a garden path or a budget route out back, because they go down quickly and feel easy on the yard. Loose material wanders without edging, so I put the edging into the plan and the quote from the start and the path stays where you put it.

What happens after you call about a walkway?

We plan your walkway around how your household uses the yard, and nothing gets built until you've seen what I'd do, what I'd leave alone and why.

  1. You call or write

Call (909) 738-1042 or use the form, and we get back to you to set a time for me to come out.

  2. I walk the route

I come out myself, walk where the path would go, take photos and show you what I'm seeing about width, slope and the ground.

  3. Your written estimate

I write up what we'd build and why, plus what can stay as it is, like a solid stretch of old path worth keeping.

  4. We build and walk it

Once you say go, we set a schedule together, our crew builds it with me on site, and we walk the finished path with you.

Walkway questions we hear a lot

How much does a concrete walkway cost in Ontario, CA?

A concrete sidewalk in the Riverside area usually costs about $4.50 to $10.50 per square foot, and that's the going rate around here, not a quote from us. Pavers, stepping stones, gravel and mulch each price differently, and the length, width, digging and edging all move your number, which I'll spell out in your written estimate.

How wide should a walkway be for two people to walk side by side?

University extension design guidance says a walkway meant for more than one person should be 3 feet wide or more. If you picture two of you heading to the car together, or rolling the bins past each other, I'll plan the path at that width or wider.

How long does a paver or porous concrete walkway last?

A university extension service says porous paving can work for decades when it's properly installed and maintained, and most of it outlasts solid paving. That puts the weight on careful installation and steady upkeep, so I'll walk you through what yours needs once it's built.

What causes water to pool on a walkway?

Usually the path was laid dead flat, so water has nowhere to go. Extension design guidance says a very slight slope to one side helps drainage, so we set the grade at the start, before any material goes down.

What happens if walkway work starts in Ontario without a needed permit?

Under Ontario's code, anyone who starts work that needs a permit without getting one first has to stop and apply for it. That can leave a half-dug path sitting in your yard, so for any path near the street we settle the permit question before we break ground, as the next section explains.

What kind of contractor should build a walkway in California?

In California, a concrete contractor is the one who forms, pours, places and finishes flat concrete work, while a landscape contractor builds and installs the landscape features around a home. For a gravel, mulch, paver or stepping stone path, it's fair to ask which way a contractor works before you hire them, and I'm happy to answer that when I come out.

Walkway construction at the front of Ontario lots

If your new path reaches the street side of the lot, the City of Ontario may get a say, because it issues permits for work in the public right-of-way, the strip along the street, and its list names sidewalks, driveways and pavement, not walkways. That means it isn't settled whether your walkway needs one, so I check with the city early, and when a job needs city sign off, we take care of the permit and set up the inspections. The city says even an owner building on their own frontage needs an encroachment permit, its permit for work in that strip, and it wants the contractor's state license number and a current city business license on it. Applications and inspection requests go through the city's online application portal, if you'd like to look it up yourself.

Around Ontario we mostly build front walks from the driveway to the door, side paths out to a gate or the trash cans, and garden paths out back, and we replace plenty of older walks that cracked or sank where roots or a leaky sprinkler got under them. We do the same work for homeowners in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga, and in plenty of other cities nearby.
